About Pixelate Image
Apply retro pixel art or censor mosaic effects to photos with adjustable mosaic block size.
Features
- Adjustable pixel block size slider (4px to 64px)
- Accurate spatial color averaging across each square mosaic cell
- Two creative applications: privacy censoring and nostalgic 8-bit/16-bit retro pixel art
- Smooth client-side canvas downsampling and nearest-neighbor upscaling
- Supports high-resolution outputs in JPEG, PNG, and WebP
How It Works
- Upload the graphic or photo you want to pixelate.
- Adjust the Pixel Block Size slider (small blocks like 6–10px for subtle censoring, large blocks like 24–40px for retro 8-bit video game aesthetics).
- Click "Apply Pixelation" to render the mosaic.
- Inspect the pixelated result in the workspace viewer.
- Download your pixelated image.
FAQs
How does the pixelation algorithm work?
Pixelora downsamples the canvas by the chosen block factor and scales it back up using nearest-neighbor interpolation, grouping neighboring pixels into solid color mosaic tiles.
Can someone un-pixelate or reverse the mosaic effect to reveal hidden details?
No. Pixelation averages all original color data within each block into a single uniform color. The fine original pixel details are permanently discarded from the output file.
What block size should I choose for retro 8-bit art?
Block sizes between 16px and 24px produce classic 8-bit/16-bit console gaming visuals while keeping the main subject recognizable.
What formats can I export to?
You can download the output in PNG (recommended for sharp pixel borders) or JPEG.
Are my private photos uploaded to a server?
No. All mosaic calculations run 100% locally on your computer inside browser memory.
